What a rose tattoo usually means
A rose is a classic tattoo symbol for love, and the thorns are often read as love that came with some pain. Fine line takes the weight out of a traditional red rose: thin single-needle lines, little or no shading, and plenty of bare skin around it.
Size and placement
- A rosebud works small. A fully open rose needs more room, so the petals stay separate as the lines soften over the years.
- Long-stem roses suit long, narrow spots: the forearm, along the ribs, the back of the arm.
- Behind the ear and the wrist suit a small bud. Ask your artist how small they are comfortable going.
Before you take it to your artist
- An AI design is a starting point. Some tattoo artists say AI designs are often too detailed for the spot they are meant for, so expect your artist to simplify it.
- The free stencil is a clean line version that shows the line work. Your artist will still redraw it to fit your body.
- Check the size before you book: try the design on with a daylight photo of the spot.
Try it on your skin
